Domestic Violence
In the past, violence against women, particularly violence occurring in the home or between intimate partners, was viewed as a private matter, not as an issue of civil or political rights. Now, however, by applying the legally accepted definitions of torture to the violence that women face everyday around the world, the international community has explicitly recognized violence against women as a human rights violation involving state responsibility.... more... |

Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)

It is about the author's, escape from Togo, Africa, from an arranged marriage and Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). Children's Rights
Children suffer many of the same human rights abuses as adults, but may also be targeted simply because they are dependent and vulnerable. Children are tortured and mistreated by state officials; they are arbitrarily or lawfully detained, often in appalling conditions; in some countries they are subjected to the death penalty. Countless thousands are killed or maimed in armed conflicts, many more have fled their homes to become refugees. Children forced by poverty or abuse to live on the streets are sometimes detained, attacked and even killed in the name of social cleansing. Many millions of children work... more... |

About Torture
... The symbology of Jesus' torture and crucifixion is often interpreted as the personal torture and crucifixion of the soul that we all experience emotionally, however, it is most certain that the torture and death Jesus experienced at the hands of others, two thousand years ago, he experienced physically and it is true that such abuses continue to occur; brothers and sisters experience torture and death even today, and while some survive, many die. .... more... |

Children at War
In over twenty countries around the world, children are direct participants in war. Denied a childhood and often subjected to horrific violence, an estimated 200,000 to 300,000 children are serving as soldiers for both rebel groups and government forces in current armed conflicts. These young combatants participate in all aspects of contemporary warfare. They wield AK-47s and M-16s on the front lines of combat, serve as human mine detectors, participate in suicide missions, carry supplies, and act as spies, messengers or lookouts. Physically vulnerable and easily intimidated, children typically make obedient soldiers. Many are abducted or recruited .... more... |
